A beautiful example of how technology can massively improve a person’s life: MomBoard: E-ink display for a parent with amnesia (discussed on Hacker News):

Today marks two years since I first set up an e-ink display in my mom’s apartment to help her live on her own with amnesia. The display has worked extremely well during those two years, so I’m sharing the basic set-up in case others find it useful for similar situations.

The condition (permanent anterograde amnesia, i.e. the inability to form new long-term memories) is absolutely horrible, and I’m very glad they found a solution that actually helped increase the quality of her and her family’s life.

Unfortunately, I feel like nowadays such examples are the exception rather than the rule, with the constant enshittification of seemingly everything. This is a good reminder that it need not be like that.
