Humans Need Not Apply was a YouTube video by CGP Gray published in 2014. It talks about how technological advancements, especially making computers smarter and more able to think and make decisions, will increasingly make humans unnecessary. It was made in time where AI research was still in its infancy (compared to today), but it has never been more relevant:

Manna – Two Views of Humanity’s Future is a short story by Marshall Brain that explores a world where AI has taken over everything. This was written no later than 2012, though I have been unable to find out exactly when. From the story description:

With half of the jobs eliminated by robots, what happens to all the people who are out of work? The book Manna explores the possibilities and shows two contrasting outcomes, one filled with great hope and the other filled with misery.

Join Marshall Brain, founder of HowStuffWorks.com, for a skillful step-by-step walk through of the robotic transition, the collapse of the human job market that results, and a surprising look at humanity’s future in a post-robotic world.

Then consider our options. Which vision of the future will society choose to follow?

These are just two examples of how a great many very smart people have predicted a future where there is less and less of a need for humans. The problems are known, as are several ideas on how this possible might be tackled, for example universal basic income (UBI). Unfortunately, nothing has changed as of yet, and we are very much on track for a future that makes Black Mirror look like a Disney cartoon.
